Seborrhea
Is a common skin problem. It causes a red, itchy rash and white scales. When it affects the scalp, it is called “dandruff.” It can be on parts of the face as well, including the folds around the nose and behind the ears, the forehead, and the eyebrows and eyelids.
Razor Bumps
Pseudofolliculitis barbae, commonly referred to as “razor bumps” is an inflammatory reaction that can affect any individual who has curly hair and who shaves. Small, itchy, sometimes painful bumps grow on the skin after shaving, when hair strands curl back on themselves and grow into the skin.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis starts underneath the skin. It is a chronic (long-lasting) disease of the immune system that can range from mild to severe.
Melasma
Melasma is a medical condition that causes dark spots or patches, usually in visible locations that are sun-exposed. Although the exact cause of melasma is unknown, there are several known triggers. Hormones (examples include pregnancy and the birth control pill), sun, and heat are potent triggers.
Hair Loss
The medical name for hair loss is “alopecia.” The treatment for alopecia depends on the cause. Shampoos, lotions, pills, or even injections are used to treat hair loss.
Eczema
Some patients come to Unique Dermatology with complaints of extremely dry, itchy skin. They may be unsure what caused it, and may find that they can’t seem to make it go away with lotions or topical creams.
Acne
90% of the population will experience acne at some point in life. It typically starts with hormonal changes during puberty but in some people, these hormonal fluctuations don’t start until age 30 or beyond, even if you’ve never had acne before.
